My kids left me for 12 days…AND I HATED IT!

My kids left me for 12 days and I HATED IT!

It seems like my entire life has been full of adventure and crazy excitement. I mean, I am a parent of 4 kids 3 and under which includes triplets – so that says a lot! I am just one of those guys who could never settle and always loves to try new things – Maybe that is part of the reason why The Baby Gang social channel grew at such a “rapid” pace. I say this all the time and I would have never thought in a million years we would be where we are with the way everything took off. When we hit 10,000 views on our first major video I thought that was “viral” and it continues to blow my mind.

Since Emily was born in 2013 and the triplets Jackson, Olivia and Levi following mid May of 2015. Life has been a non-stop on-the-go chaotic adventure. Nothing short of amazing though. It has been fun, stressful, emotional, tiring ..literally EVERYTHING. But it has been awesome. For these last few years I have been so adjusted and used to noise along with extreme craziness all of the time. Having this chaos day to day has not really allowed myself or Corrie to have a lot of “Me/US” time. Something most parents if not all parents can relate too. How ever, I will always recognize the fact that moms are the ones who usually lack or suffer from their “me” time and that is OK because each family and reasoning is different. Just know your sanity matters and I hope you are working with your family to get some time for yourself! You moms are amazing and I love you all!

So my kids have gone on a road trip with my wife Corrie taking the kids, along with her two sisters Auntie TayTay, Auntie Gaga with BABY AXEL 🙂 and their Nanny. Sadly due to my work schedule and shortage on vacation time I was unable to go. I would have LOVED to be there, especially after just doing a road trip from Ontario Canada to Las Vegas and California with the kids, after doing that I feel like I can do anything.. I mean that.

Corrie is a stay at home mom, Tay-Tay  is on her summer vacation, Gaga is coming towards the end of her Maternity leave and Nanny is retired – so why no take advantage of such a great opportunity to get away! As much as it worried me – I knew they would work well together (like they always do) and watch over the kids to their best ability. The main thing that worries me is always the possibility of something dangerous or scary happening and having no control to do anything about it – It has been keeping me on edge their entire trip!

You know, most dads or moms based of some of the conversations I have encountered with other parents may feel like they would be in heaven given this same scenario I am in. Honestly, for me, total opposite. I missed the kids instantly! I thought maybe it was going to be a good break away and it was…for two days. From going to crazy chaos EVERYDAY for the last 3+ years to extreme quiet was such a dramatic change to my daily lifestyle and routine. I was not used to it at all and I HATED IT! There are some pluses I must admit and it just makes me feel like I am a teenager/college student again. I can do stay up as late as I want (A different type of stay up, not the one parents go through), I can leave the house when ever I want, I can plans when ever and do what ever. No denying these are great benefits to have but I am a family man now. I love coming home from work everyday and being greeted like a super hero, I love when the kids cry and have a boo-boo and they need a kiss from me to make it better, I love having a wife to come home and talk to – listening to all of the crazy events that happened that day, I love watching them communicate with each other and all of the funny things they do, I love tucking them into bed a night, I love being someone my family counts and relies on – and I will always be there to do that.

I just love being a dad.

I could not wait for my family to come home!

That being said, 2 weeks was a long time without the out the kids, so I am sure you are wondering what I got up too – so to help pass the time here are a few of my amazing highlights.

I was lonely without the kids and got new kids

I did a photo shoot BY MYSELF also of my cat Harvey.. Turned out pretty well in my opinion. It is amazing on the magic a camera timer can do.

I went for a hike.. that was funhike

I did some rock climbing

I played with my action figures… For someone reason I was reminded of the kids.minions

I tucked my new kids into their beds EVERY NIGHT

finally… WE REUNITED!

The end…?

Fatherhood changed my life, my kids are my greatest accomplishment and I want to share why.

Prior to having children, I never imagined my self as a dad…especially a young dad with multiple children including triplets and a toddler. If you had asked me about kids, I would have said that I wasn’t ready and I wanted to wait. Now I hear that phrase and I think to myself, are we ever really “ready” to have children?

For us there was no plan. My wife and I had been together for 6 years before we had our first child, Emily. I am not saying it was out of the blue – as we had many conversations about having a baby – but it became one of those things where we said that if it happened, it happened…and then it did.

Finding out I was going to be a dad was terrifying! I had just graduated school, I still lived at home with my parents, and I was only 3 years in to working my full time job as a bank teller. Hell, I had never even changed a diaper in my life! Looking back, I had no idea what I was in for. I think what worried me the most probably from portrayals of parenting in movies and on TV was the thought that suddenly your life and freedom come to an end when you have kids (theoretically speaking, of course). I was more worried about all of the judgement from friends and family about our living situation, financial situation, and that fact that we were young parents. I could have not been more wrong.

My family, my wife’s family and our friends were extremely excited and supportive. I remember telling my mom and watching her break down in tears of joy in celebration of our news. I am not saying my dad and stepmom weren’t excited or supportive, because they were.  But after breaking the news to them did not go the way I had expected it to (details aside), they eventually expressed their happiness.

One thing I learned about expecting a baby was that it “manned” me right up! I knew I had to get my priorities in order,  including, among other things, getting prepared for buying my first home with extreme excitement and focus around setting up our nursery.

Despite everything I was worried or concerned about prior to having children, I could not have been more wrong. Fatherhood changed my life in the best possible way and to this day it is the best thing that has ever happened to me. My kids are my greatest accomplishment. I know it sounds cliché, but it is 100% my truth!

Growing up, my brothers and I had been through many unfortunate events that no child or children should ever go through. My mom was a single mother of 4 who struggled with drug and alcohol addiction and my dad was an alcoholic. I suffered abuse and neglect. I have been through foster care where I was separated from my twin brother and my other siblings for over a year. I remember a very dark past. I never had any real guidance on what life had to offer, or ways to get ahead. My first bank account was opened at the age of 8, and I had no education savings like an RESP. When it came to finances and bills, I often learned things the hard way. In hindsight, it really helped me become more responsible, resourceful, and appreciative of everything I had and everything I worked for.

I have shared very little details about difficulties in my past, but with everything I have been through and the struggles and battles people like my mom have experienced, I always vowed that my life and my family’s life would be different. I promised myself that they would never experience difficulty or struggle like the hardship I knew from my childhood. I have used the memory and experience of those struggles as motivation to be the best provider I could be so that my kids would not go through anything close to what I had been through. Despite all of the struggles, my mom and dad are wonderful people. I can remember so many amazing things growing up with my family that would truly warm your heart. We all have our battles, and we all have our way of dealing with things. After being addicted to drugs most of my life, my mom has been clean and sober for over 7 years. She is very present in my life and my kids’ lives as well. She is an amazing grandma!

One of the truest sayings I have every come across says, “When a baby is born, a dad is born.” I never imagined my life as a father to one baby, let alone to four. Being a father of triplets has me in awe every day. It has been two years since their birth and I am still blown away that my wife and I conceived these 3 babies naturally. The last 3 years as a dad have been the best and most rewarding years of my life so far, and I expect that to continue in leaps and bounds as my kids learn and grow.

Fatherhood for me created such a huge spark in my life and has kept me so motivated! I want to be the best influence and as involved as I can possibly be in my children’s lives. My kids represent everything great about me and they are my greatest accomplishment. When I became a dad, I became a million things. I became a doctor, a comedian and even became a superhero! Dads are there to make things better. To heal wounds, to cause laughter and ultimately give advice. I just love learning about my kids and cannot even begin to express how blessed and happy I am to be a father to my children. They have changed my life.

To conclude this blog post, I want to express that fatherhood is amazing! We have such a vital role in our children’s lives and we need to be aware of how important we are and how much we truly mean to our kids. I want to express great wishes and send an honorable fatherly salute to all of you amazing dads out there!

Happy Father’s Day!

Our first family science experiment!

We took advantage of a nice cold day to conduct our first ever Baby Gang science experiment!

With 4 young children who take up just about every minute of our time, we are a family who loves fun and adventure. What makes that special is doing it together, as a family. That is what family is all about.

Watching the kids grow has both Corrie and myself in such amazement to see how a developing mind works. Their curious little minds like little sponges absorbing all types of information makes me wonder how they see the world around them and what they are thinking about!

Recently on a cold day we took advantage to come up with a fun science experiment with the kids. It was -12 degrees Celsius (not including the windchill) and we wondered if water could evaporate in this freezing cold water. It had the kids super excited!

Makes for a great parenting win!  Watch below 🙂

Be on the look out for more fun with the kids!

Having multiple children at once (we have triplets) is something you can never expect to happen or plan for. We had a unique situation, we were planning for our second when Emily was 10 months old and 3 days before her first birthday we discovered we would be expecting…TRIPLETS!

To this day it still fascinates and shocks me that in 2015 we were going to have 4 kids under the age of two, but the thought of having our kids close in age was really cool! After spreading the news about our expecting multiples we had various friends and family tag us in specific baby products that could help make our lives easier or that we could use given our situation. Beds, cribs and car seats.. you name it and if it had the ability to fall under the multiples category you can guarantee that we would been tagged in it!

One product that always popped up and our friends were sure to tag us in was the Diono Radian RXT car seat. We were literally tagged to use this product 1000+ times as it had a very sleek design, reinforced side walls, energy absorbing EPS foam, extended rear facing and a five point harness system… Basically it was super safe and looked very cool with 3 seats together!  – But how did that differ from other car seats?

We had the recent opportunity to partner and team up with the our friends the Parent Life Network and they were so great to inform me that I could turn my sedan vehicle into a family vehicle using these Diono Radian RXT car seats… What excited me most is after seeing this product multiple times, it was time to make it a reality!

The result!?

After testing out this product, and going on multiple adventures with my triplets; Jackson, Olivia and Levi + plus Emily on separate occasions, I was in awe! I was impressed with how easy they were to install and how awesome it was to transform my sedan car into a complete family vehicle!

Given my situation of having 4 kids I had to take it to the next step in upgrading one of my cars to a mini van [and the Diono car seats have proved to be a huge space saver in the van]! But it goes to show that if you are expecting to have 1 – 3 babies, that you do not have to go out and pay all this money to purchase a mini van/SUV – you can actually save money by purchasing a diono car seat and to safely and comfortably fit your kids in your car! the Radian RxT is a great space saver with a very unique design that has a very extensive set of safety features and I highly recommend them for any family big or small!

The Diono Radian RxT car seat is a game changer!

Things dad find cool = certified impressed!

Corrie and I went out to the grocery with the kids and we found ourselves in a little bit of a dilemma. It happens often actually, but as we got home the kids fell asleep in the car. Normally we leave them be, and can be a great way to catch up on some e-mails, social media, watch a movie or even hit the drive-thru and get a meal! To think you could do all that with 4 kids and not even have to leave your vehicle is a great hack itself! But sometimes you have somethings to do, and often enough you need to let your baby nap! Or else, it’s continued chaos for the rest of the day with cranky children. When you have multiples, you need to take advantage of every chance you get in letting your kids nap ESPECIALLY AT THE SAME TIME!

Inspired by a friend through a fun conversation about our children. The idea to remove your child while still in the car seat came to me as a genius idea!

Thank You Baby

Dad’s do it best! 😉

If you were to ask me 3 years ago before ever having children if I was ready to be a father, I would probably say no. Thinking about bringing life into this world and the little to no experience I have in that field, was it really something I was prepared for? Could I even prepare myself to be a dad? How? My wife and I had been together for so many years. High school sweet hearts in fact, but I am not sure if it counts because we both went to different high schools… Maybe that was a good thing to give us good space ha-ha. By the time we had Emily in 2013 we had already been together for a number a years, so prior to her birth the topic of children came up quite a few times. A topic I would avoid and brush off most of the time. “Can we talk about this later!?” “I don’t want to talk about this right now.” Yup, that sounds about right. Those questions were always running through my mind and just being a recent graduate of college and still living with my parents the main thought I had was – am I ready to be a father?

When it all comes down to it, is being a parent something you can totally be prepared for? In my opinion no. You can always have tips, advice and best practices but until it actually happens you can never prepare for the experience. The best experience. Being a parent and being a father has honestly been the best thing that has ever happened to me. Cliché to say I know, but it is so true because I have the experience. With Father’s Day just passing, I am one who prides himself on being a dad. a fun and motivated dad! I think it is awesome to have a day where we recognize all the efforts dads across the world put in to be the best possible figure in their children’s lives. A day of reflection and recognition, because just like moms, dads are dads 24 hours, 7 days a week 365 days of the year! Every day is Father’s Day.

I had recently had the opportunity to be apart of my 1st twitter party in celebration of Father’s Day brought to life by our amazing partner Pampers. I must say, what a WONDERFUL experience. It was well organized, and full of participation surrounding the topic of dads and their babies. It was truly inspiring to see all the different answers to each of the asked questions and one thing I did note is that no dad is the same! We all have the unique title of being a father but how awesome is it to see all of the different moments we each hold dear to our hearts. From different family traditions to the way we celebrate, fatherhood between us is a true bond that cannot be broken between us fellow dads!

Also, check out this amazing video! When a baby is born, a dad is born #ThanksBaby

In this time of reflection and celebration of this yearly tradition, to celebrate dads across the globe allows me to understand how truly blessed and thankful I am. Being a parent is no easy task and comes with endless amounts of work, frustrating times and of course the long hours. But it is totally worth it! To appreciate the smaller things in life and to really see that copious amounts of happiness are literally within reach at all times. From their first cry, first laugh first smile, first cuddle, first words, first steps and endless list of precious moments that give us unforgettable memories. Thank you baby.

To all the dads!

Learning words with DAD… PT. 2

emily puzzle
Emily completing her first puzzle! 🙂

Every night before bed, Emily and I have a little routine where we brush our teeth cozy up and end our night with a little fun. She loves to read and loves to be apart of any video we make so most of the time we will do some videos through snap chat and read a book before we call it a day. I love making videos through snap chat because I basically have an endless supply of video storage (10 seconds at a time) that I can save to my story and compile it into one video that I can chop and edit myself afterwards.. It is a great way to catch a natural fun effect of a video. I always think of words she already knows, or will throw out the odd word just to hear how it sounds. IT IS THE CUTEST THING EVER! – Currently my favorite word she uses is Peanut Butter. It amazes me how smart she is and willing to try just by the sound of my voice, she picks things up so fast! Kind of scary in away, ha ha.

Below you will find PART 2 of learning words with dad via our YouTube channel.

Do you have a nightly routine with your child or children? what are some of your favorite things they say or do? Let us know in the comments below!

A Toddler’s Lunch

Emily eating lunch today =D

Today she had a peanut butter sandwich, with kiwi and strawberries!

I have found lunch to be the hardest meal for me to prepare, as my days have become so busy. After waking up, bringing everyone downstairs, changing 4 bums, feeding the triplets (breastfeeding and cereal), making Emily breakfast and finding time for me to eat, the last thing I am thinking of is what to make for lunch.

I have always tried to make sure Emily eats a wide variety of foods and like any parent you want your child to eat as healthy as possible. When it comes to lunch I still want to make sure to include both fruits and veggies, but I also look for quick and simple ideas.

My main goal with everything I make, is that Emily eats it and all of it! I also have to keep in mind that although I want Emily to eat as healthy as possible, in the end she is going to eat what she wants to eat. Peanut butter sandwiches are one of my go to meals for Emily, as I know she loves them and will eat it all. Adding a few fruits or veggies, such as the kiwi and strawberries, adds some extra nutrition and is a healthy choice. One thing I do want to start doing is buying whole wheat bread. Even just a simple change as that, adds extra nutrition to the meal.

It does become a challenge some days and even when I think I have prepared a meal Emily will love and eat, she decides she doesn’t want to eat it. One day she will love strawberries and then a week later she hates them and wont touch them. All I can do is prepare meals I thinks she will like and hope she eats them!

What are some of your go to meals for lunch that you have found to be quick and simple, but also healthy?

Leave your ideas in the comments below!

Learning words with … DAD

Emily, making us lunch 🙂

Our toddler, princess Emily has recent turned two. Such a fun stage it is for us parents to experience as children this age gain their own independence, and yes the terrible twos do exist. But it is not terrible AT ALL.. The furthest thing from it. We have too much fun.

Below you will find a funny and cute video of how a daughter and father
